waow, politics... not my cup of tea really ! I don't have enough knowledge to talk about it, and so my opinions are not very interesting : death penalty bad, saving energy good, war bad, freedom of speech good... Bush bad ! that kind of thing ! I think all my life I've focused on my own problems, and I didn't give that much a thought about what goes on in the world, knowing just that it's not going somewhere nice ! But I'll have my assignement ready for monday !

In these clips people are angry and offensive towards us government or their authorities. Democracy is really exist in this country? People are losing trust and complaining about the events happening now.

Speaking of democracy, I have mixed feelings. Apparently, we are free, we have our rights, on the other hand, it seems to me that there is something that still makes us enslaved. For instance, if the society is against the war in Iraq, why does the government do something different? We have freedom of speech and we have the right to express our disappointment, but still, demonstrators are always watched by the police like animals in cages. Sometimes I don't believe in fact that democracy really exists:(

When I was flipping through the channels last night I fell on a Metallica video, "One", featuring scenes from the 1939 movie "Johnny got his gun", by Dalton Trumbo. The movie is about a man going to war and being severely wounded ( loses arms, legs, hearing, and sight). There is a scene where as a little boy he asks his father : "what is democracy ?", and he answers "that's something to do with young men killing each other". The boy then asks : "when it comes my turn, will you want me to go ?", to which his father replies : "for democracy, any man would give his only begotten son."
Pretty scary...

I kind of agree with what Magda says..the war in Iraq is one of that things that don't really make you trust that the democracy really exist. In a Democracy what people say and think should count!!! When Hurrican Katrina happened and the way the US government dealt with it was another moment in which I felt democracy don't really exist...It is sad to admit but in our societies people still count differently depending on their skin colour and their social position.

I feel ashamed that I have very little knowledge about politics and democracy. I didn't cared much about these issues even when I was a college studtent, a time usually typified by greater sensitivity toward politics. In my perspective, I've always thought that I have enough freedom. However, if I were an acitve member of student movement, I probably would believe that Korea is far from a democratic country. I don't know much about American democracy, either. Yet I think that compared to Korea, people in the US have much more freedom to express their own opinions on the govenment and politicians.
